This summer, on the occasion of the Yayoi Kusama retrospective, the artist’s Yellow Trees transformed 345 West 14th Street in the Meatpacking District, near the Whitney’s new building site.

Seeing Yayoi Kusama’s work at The Whitney was one of the highlights of my fall. Brilliant woman.

According to everyone who has worked with Mr. Esposito, he is a kind and gregarious guy. Which makes his creation of the greatest t.v. villain in the last 20 years even more impressive. Nothing in his performance as Gustavo “Gus” Fring so much as hinted at light or joy. Instead there was only cold calculation and controlled violence.

Gina Torres is utterly beautiful, talented and kickass. I loved her as Zoë on Firefly, but this picture makes me hopeful that she’ll get cast in a period piece. One involving longing glances and the occasional duel at dawn. That she will, of course, win.

There are five reasons The Voice beats American Idol.

1. A genuine commitment to finding the best voices which means an elimination round that we don’t even see.

2. An audition round in which contestants sing onstage and in front of an audience testing their readiness for that kind of pressure.

3. The judges. And by the judges, I mean Cee-Lo’s awesome talking head moments that include his white cat.

4. Eliminations from the judges even when the audience starts voting.

5. Carson Daly (I know. I KNOW.)

I had no plans to watch Girls especially after all the breathless claims that it was somehow a revolution despite being white and young and thin. But this quote seals the deal. “It’s just a show”?
